BMD successfully completes Parklands Project “Village Heart”

The project involved subdivisional works including bulk earthworks, installation of services, and the relocation of a major sewer rising main which allowed the builders of the athletes’ village to commence works.

JMac was also awarded the $17 million package of landscaping works to create a recreational precinct for residents, known as the “Village Heart”. The works included creating large open greenspaces, two man-made lakes, formed concrete walls, decorative pavements, and bespoke custom furniture. A large resin infused, carbon fibre composite disc designed to emulate Natural Bridge, forms the centre point for the park and will be a significant meeting point during the games. Flanking the perimeter of the disc is a three dimensionally rolled steel arbour resembling a DNA helix.

BMD’s vertical integration strategy saw collaboration between BMD Urban and JMac which delivered a high quality outcome on time, on budget and defect free. Early on during construction, the team identified that local knowledge and understanding of the complexities of the working environment would be paramount to delivering such an important piece of infrastructure and by delivering various innovations during the project, the client was able to realise significant cost savings.
